With the year slowly approaching its end, we already see some predictions coming in for 2025. As usual, in this month’s news we picked out eye-catching tech developments in the realm of digital signage,. Furthermore, we have an update on what’s been happening on our blog. We’re also giving you a heads up on DSE 2024 which is coming up very soon. Let’s begin!

OAAA predictions for 2025

The Out-of-Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA) laid out a set of predictions for the OOH advertising industry from various angles. To no one’s surprise, in 2025 the Out-of-Home world is likely to focus more on data measurement tools and analytics.

Based on previous spending, budgets will likely readjust their flows from overspent channels, such as television, and into Out-of-Home advertising. AI-driven content and more immersive OOH experiences will continue to emerge, just as they had throughout 2024. The growth of programmatic DOOH is also expected to continue, tapping into live data, such as traffic and weather, to adjust ads in real time. Take a look at the full article for all the details!

Stretchy and flexible digital displays!

LG has previously developed flexible display technology, but they now unveiled a prototype display which can stretch up to 1.5 times its size. The first version of the stretchy 12-inch MicroLed display could be folded, twisted, and stretched up to 20%. The latest version reaches 50%, and is suitable to be sewn into clothing or even worn directly on the skin.

In terms of use, the clothing industry was reportedly always considered as the main target market for this technology. Besides design and style, stretchable MicroLeds could also be used with utility clothing to display warning signals or real-time information. This tech sounds very intriguing, and unsurprisingly competitor Samsung is also dipping its toes into the technology, developing their own variant.

The Digital Signage Experience is coming!

The DSE 2024 event is just around the corner. Conferences are open throughout December 7-10th and the exhibit hall from December 9-10th at the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the event, DSE is a truly immersive experience! It allows visitors to meet manufacturers, integrators, and technology providers within the digital signage industry. The conference program is a platform for industry experts, bringing you in-depth sessions, and even off-site tours. Networking events offer plenty of opportunities to form connections with other people in the industry. Another event, LDI, is co-located with DSE 2024 and is taking place at the same time, offering additional experiences, if you’re interested.

Digital Signage Pulse shared a discount code, DSP20. You may use it to get a free Expo Hall Pass, or 20% off Conference Pass at DSE.

A shape-shifting LED display in a Dubai mall

This month, we stumbled across news of the Dubai Mall installing a suspended LED halo sculpture which may change its shape. It consists of five rings which can separate to create a unique visual experience. They may then merge back together into one large circular display to act as a canvas for larger content. Daktornics partnered with Emaar Malls and TAIT Towers to manufacture this marvel of tech. Each of the display rings measures 0.75 meters in height and 24 meters in width.

Andrew Gorder, the senior project manager for Daktronics, noted it wasn’t a small challenge to complete this project in this unique location. “It is always a challenge to deliver a project in the world’s largest mall; with the limited working hours, tight schedules and the requirement to return the atrium to normal operation status each morning.”

This month on the OnSign TV blog, we provided an in-depth overview of the compatibility of our digital signage software. It is not uncommon for digital signage users to run their content across different operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, Android, and others. It’s imperative that the digital signage software of your choosing be able to work seamlessly on all operating systems you use.
