Another holiday season is upon us, with plenty of exciting ways to use digital signage transpiring. As we typically cover this topic ahead of the holidays, you’re likely familiar with the most common uses for a digital display in December. With that in mind, we’ll quickly run through the basics and get into some additional uses that will make the 2024 holidays even more exciting and successful for your business.

The “Holiday Digital Signage” pack!

Let’s start off this post with the basics! Here are some main uses of digital signage to explore, which are applicable for any holiday, regardless of the time of the year.

  • Holiday Sale Promotions – Build banners featuring seasonal sales, highlighting the percentage of the discounts.
  • Real-time countdowns to holidays – Use timer apps offered by your digital signage software of choice to build hype leading up to Christmas or the New Year. Timers can also, of course, apply to sales to build excitement and boost engagement throughout the 2024 holidays.
  • Seasonal Weather Updates –  Digital signage weather apps do the work for you by showcasing the weather in upcoming days. Additionally, take it a step extra and highlight the weather forecast on the holiday in question.
  • Gift wrapping services – Inform shoppers that gift wrapping services are available. If gift-wrapping isn’t part of your offer this month, consider it. Everyone loves gift wrap!
  • Decorate your displays – Create snowy overlays or cozy fireplace animations in the corners of your main content to give it a magical touch. Very easy to do with the Dynamic Composition, by the way.

Festive social media feeds

Make use of your social media efforts and repost content from Youtube, TikTok, or any other platform to your digital signage. Social media is abuzz during the holidays, so engage with your followers and customers via campaigns.

Plenty of digital signage apps can utilize information from social media to create streamlined and polished flows of content to your digital signage. Social media walls are one fabulous example!

Build music playlists for the 2024 holidays

Digital signage displays are typically best used in silent mode. After all, you may have many of them in one area, and utilizing audio properly can be tricky. However, one great use for them is to run background music for your store. It’s up to you to see how valuable this particular use will be, as your environment may or may not allow for it.

In the case that it does, it’s quite an easy exercise to implement. Simply drag the music of your choice into the OnSign TV folder structure, create an audio playlist, and sort the music as you wish. Of course, be mindful of your music choices and permissions. For the holidays, be sure to pick out cozy compositions. And don’t forget, employees will be hearing this music the entire day, so be kind and mindful in your selections and offer a good level of variety.

What’s new in the store?

As it usually is during holidays, stores stock up on new products, seasonal offers, or bundle up products. However, you don’t need to wait for your regular shoppers to do a detailed scan of your store to find these new things. Instead, be direct and tell them via digital signage and even social media. Create images or walkthrough videos that show which parts of the store have been temporarily updated, new products on offer, bundled items, as well as anything you feel a regular customer will want to know.

Take a page out of the holiday play book and utilize this feature whenever there is a change happening. It gives you an excellent road to fresh content, getting your customers used to digital signage being accurate, and providing them with gentle reminders.

Group & bundle products

This tip goes a bit beyond digital signage, as it requires you to have grouped or bundled products. For a start, group products based on categories both in the store and your digital signage. Items which can work well as gifts can be set up in one section of the store. This will help customers find them more easily and browse more efficiently.

In terms of bundling, consider which items work together as one combined gift. Here are some ideas!

  • Gift ideas based on customer type – Who would like to receive your products as gifts? For lovers of journals and writing, create bundles with elegant notepads and writing tools, be they pens, pencils, or even quills. It’s all about style, after all. For foodies, a carefully curated gourmet basket could include jams, premium chocolates, and a bottle of wine.
  • Holiday themed decoration sets – Most stores have plenty of left-over decorations which didn’t sell. One great way to ensure they do is by bundling them based on color, texture, or even a particular theme. For example, a gingerbread decoration bundle.
  • Build recipe bundles – Create custom recipe cards and combine them with the ingredients needed for the respective recipe. This, of course, isn’t necessarily a gift. It can be a fun holiday activity for the family. Simple recipes such as cookies, eggnog, or hot chocolate mixes could be bundled, then featured on your digital signage.
  • Holiday book recommendations – A great use for bookstores, or even to promote partner businesses if you find your target audience might be interested. Pick books you have read yourself or based on online reviews and highlight a variety of genres.
  • Winter Travel Tips – Build skincare bundles which are affordable and provide all the essentials. At the very least, a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sun protection. These can be great products for buyers themselves but also as gifts.
  • Low cost DIY projects and toys – Pick out projects the family can do together with kids. These can be DIY products which are already prepared, or they can be projects made up of different products. For example, a bundle of a coloring book, colorful paper, glue, and paper scissors is a great start. Kids can use the coloring book as a base. DIY projects can be as simple or as complicated as your audience wishes.
