Warning: Although the Fire TV is a great device, we don't recommend using it for professional signage applications. Read more at the end of this tutorial.
Installing OnSign TV into an Amazon Fire TV is a a simple and quick process. Just follow these three simple steps:
1 - Enable installing Apps "From unknown sources"
- Click on Amazon Fire Home button
- Go to Settings
- Click on Device > Developer Options
- Turn On - Installing Apps from unknown sources
2 - Install Downloader App
The Downloader App enables downloading and installing Android Apps from any web URL.
- Click on Amazon Fire Home button
- Go to Apps
- Press the down arrow and go to "Categories"
- Using the arrow keys, go and click on "Utility"
- Select the Downloader App
- Click OK to Download it
- Once finished the download, click the OK button to open the app
3 - Downloading and installing OnSign TV
- Once the Downloader app is opened
- Enter the web URL for downloading OnSign TV player: app.onsign.tv/download/player/latest/android
- Press Go button
- Once Download is finished the install screen will be shown.
- Using the Fire TV remote keys press down until you reach the bottom, and press on the Next item at the bottom right of the screen
- A second confirmation menu will be shown. Go and click "Install" using the arrow keys
- Once finished installing, press the Open Button
Finally, follow the regular paring process to associate the player to your account as described on this tutorial.
Important notes:
- To get out of OnSign TV - Press the Back button
- OnSign TV is configured to automatically auto start every-time the device is turned on. This can be changed on player settings.
- You can manually start the app by: Go To Fire TV Settings > Applications >Manage Installed Applications -> Scroll to OnSign TV App -> Launch Application
- To uninstall OnSign TV : Go to Fire TV Settings > Applications >Manage Installed Applications -> Scroll to OnSign TV App -> Click on "Uninstall"
Fire TV Limitations
Although the Fire TV is a great device there are several limitations you need to keep in mind:
- The Fire TV is not a regular Android device, so there is always a chance of some features not working.
- The Fire TV is a a device fully controlled by Amazon, so updates and changes can stop OnSign TV from working on the device.
- The Fire TV is a device meant for home use, so it does not have the proper housing and heat dissipation for 24x7 operation
- The Fire TV don't support the following OnSign TV features:
- Remote View
- Remote and scheduled reboot
- Advanced remote support by OnSign TV team (this limits the amount of data our team can get from your device in case you need our support)
