October was quite a dazzling month, as it provided many wonderful sights in the world of digital signage. From the iconic Festival of Lights in Berlin, to impressive examples of digital signage tech, there was a lot to see. We also ran across handy notes on the best weekday for cold outreaches, as well as the future of programmatic digital signage.

The best day for OOH sales?

According to recent research, as well as research from a few years ago, the middle of the week remains the best time to send emails in general! Fittingly, the CEO of Huntington Outdoor, Justin Powell, gave a great talk this month about selling Out-of-Home. This is in accordance with the first-hand research done by the company through quizzing their sales people on the three best days for cold calling. The most common answers were Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Of which, Wednesday was viewed as by far the best.

There is also much value found in a fast response time, noting that the odds of connecting with a lead, if called within five minutes, are 100 times higher than if called within 30 minutes.

More examples of innovative digital signage tech!

A sports bar in Dallas has demonstrated a phenomenal use of a curved display layout by building a circular LED display over one of the drink stations. This way, at least one piece of the screen is visible from all sides. This offers a phenomenal approach of letting everyone get a view of the action during game nights, but also provides for stunning visual opportunities if all displays are playing synchronized content.

The round display wall is 47.1 feet (14.35 meters) in circumference. Take a look at the video of the installation process below!

Another awesome example of digital signage tech comes through the use of transparent displays. The lobby of the exhibition hall in Lingqu Park, in China, utilized floor-to-ceiling semi-transparent displays to portray a beautiful faux waterfall. The visual works primarily at a distance, but still provides a powerful impact nonetheless!

How soon will programmatic DOOH reach $1 billion?

Programmatic Digital Out-of-Home is the future of the industry, that much is clear. And there is no doubt it will reach impressive heights as the industry continues to move forward. The main question we ask ourselves is just how fast and maybe how far that rise will be.

During the Digital Out-of-Home Insider Summit, president and CEO of Out-of-Home Advertising Association of America, Anna Bager revealed a few key findings from an OAAA study on ad spending changes. Firstly, she noted that 67% of revenue still belongs to static OOH, but most of the growth is coming from digital OOH. And the main ingredient responsible for that growth is programmatic DOOH.

“Programmatic will probably reach around the billion dollars today and by 2026 it’s going to be 30% of all digital out of home advertising, so programmatic is really leading the way,” she said. A truly exciting prospect, as it also unlocks additional potential as advertisers grow more accustomed to using it. If you’re interested to hear more, take a look at the full talk below.

Berlin’s Festival of Lights!

This month, the Festival of Lights in Berlin which runs annually transformed the city’s landmarks into vibrant displays of art through projection. It took place from October 4th to 13th. This year’s theme was “Celebrating Freedom” in honor of the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Sites like the Berlin TV Tower and Brandenburg Gate acted as canvases for various artists.

The event has become a commercial success, gaining international recognition, attracting visitors, and boosting local tourism. Many brands showed up to display their logos as they sponsored the event. The event is, of course, free of charge. The idea is that it is “a gift to Berlin, the Berliners, and guests from all over the world.”

Exploring innovative digital signage materials!

This month on the OnSign TV blog, we went through a few posts that might spark some ideas for your next campaign. Firstly, take a look at seven digital signage layouts you can achieve easily with OnSign TV, with varying examples including product demos, social media handles, etc.

Early in this news set, we highlighted examples for transparent and curved displays. We also happened to cover this tech in a post on using innovative digital signage materials. Alongside ways of using transparent and curved displays, you’ll also find 3D digital signage as well as other compatible technologies.

Another bit of exciting news, this month we released our first episode of OnSign TV Talks, featuring Oscar Rosnes, the CEO ScreenPublishing. He provided interesting insights and first-hand experiences, including how implementing a single button via digital signage produced thousands in savings. Check it out!
